Rauarooste kihid, mis rasvased, puhastada mehaaniliselt kas bensiini või lakibensiiniga. Pealispind katta rooste muundajaga, mille toimet tõestab hallikas pruuni tooni tekkimine. Efekti suurendamiseks tuleb pealispinda 2-3 tunni pärast niisutada veega. Kui töötlemise ajal on temperatuur üle +25°C, on vesi tingimata vajalik. Pealispinda tohib värvida peale 24 tunni möödumist. Soovitav enne värvimist pind üle kruntida. Rooste muundajat ei tohi kasutada alla 0°C, kadu on 100-170 g/m2.
